Polio Eradication
Rotary International has received a very generous gift of $355m from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which Rotary will part match to the tune of $200m. It is hoped that this figure will be achieved over a 3 year period.
The total $555m will directly support the immunisation campaigns in developing countries where polio continues to infect and paralyse children. To see how close we are to achieving this goal click on this youtube link.
The members of the Rotary Club of Paisley Callants are delighted to report that they were able to donate the magnificent sum of £1093.35 to the Thanks for Life Campaign to End Polio Now. This money was raised by club members participating in a bag pack at the local Tesco store in Paisley and also by inviting local churches to Pop A Pound for Polio in Paisley. We are very grateful to the management at Tesco Store, Lady Lane, and to seven local churches, namely:- Coats Memorial, Laigh Kirk, Paisley Abbey, Methodist Central Halls, New Jersualem, St Columba's and St Peter's, for their support.
You can see Bill Gates address the delegates at the recent Rotary International Conference in Birmingham.
